A poem by my cousin. Aloha!
We the people…
poetry about a Great Nation.
By Bryn James
Be careful with your money; be careful with your time,
Be careful with your thoughts, before you spend that dime.
A nickel won’t buy you almost anything,
So what happened to our money; it’s in the washing machine.
The politicians are taking it and making it real clean,
They’re gonna take a dollar and put it in your jeans.
What they don’t tell you is that the money you just collected,
It ain’t worth half the price of a nickel in the Great Depression.
Party for today, party for tonight,
Party for forever, it’s really out of sight!
Some people try to tell you to let your senses go,
Don’t worry about tomorrow; it’s just a picture show.
Go ahead and give-in and don’t worry about protectin’,
All the years of history that made this nation worth defendin’.
They tell you the planet is the greater good and we are all not equal,
The ruthless rulers in other parts of the world are waiting for our sequel.
They want to get their hands on the things that your ancestors built for you,
They want to destroy the foresight to be conservative and they want to melt the glue.
The glue that built this Great Nation, the glue that keeps us together,
They want to destroy the things that hold us by our tether.
Put aside the hard work you do in the morning dew,
They tell you it won’t help you make a break through.
They forget our nation was built on ‘the early bird gets the worm,’
And they turned it into a ‘sleep late and make others squirm.’
Some foreign rulers had the spirit to put up a fight and then divide,
They cried they lied; they even tried to break our Nation’s pride.
Foreign rulers asked us to help them based on our spirit of humanity,
They played on our Christianity and tried to turn it into insanity.
Which would you rather be, a nation that stands tall and strong,
Or be in a world of nations where no one ever gets along?
They tell you that we are all one-world and we must go nation-less,
They tell you we must have peace and social progressiveness.
But who will be our leader and by what method will they lead,
It’s not ever told to us because some lead so they can deceive.
Make sure you know if you are voting for, is it socialism or worse,
That means you give up whatever you’ve worked hard to put in your own purse.
Through hard work and sacrifice you have put some things aside.
You want future generations of your own people-kind so they won’t be denied.
But now they want to take your share from you but watch how they will divide,
In the name of humanity and giving to less fortunate who for themselves cannot provide.
They give what you worked to save and give it to those who have less,
They give it to those who have squandered and made a big, big mess.
Others lives may be tattered, shattered and torn all apart,
Now you are told that you made the wrong choice because you got a ‘head start.’
Just because you are beleaguered at helping the poor and weak,
And you are struggling on your own and the future is looking bleak.
Don’t let the government tell you what you must do,
To give up what you have worked for your whole life through.
Make your life strong, stand up for yourself and family,
Our founding fathers knew quite well of this coming infamy.
Don’t let it fade away by the chipping of outside forces,
Watch how you surrender to the slaves on pretty white horses.
They attack us at our money base with high gasoline prices,
They tell us we are at fault; we have caused the world’s crises.
Go green, go clean, or you blow the planet to smithereens,
Shut down the plants, the farms, the factories and machines.
Let us, the government; help you get back to Mother Nature,
In the meantime, the best you can do is to suffer from your bad behavior.
Give up your large home to some others, who don’t have as much,
Move over and make way for the Duchess of such and such.
It sounds like you’re helping others; it rings so solid and true,
Are they also asking you to give up the Red, White and Blue?
We are a nation who helps our fallen and hurt,
We are a nation of wonderful people when are in the dirt.
Stand up for liberty and happiness and life,
Don’t let them take you down and keep you out of the fight.
There once was a movie I saw with something like this,
It started quite happy and even ended with a kiss.
But during the story that we all followed along,
Something went bad, something went terribly wrong.
Hard times happened in the story, like often it does,
The people thought that it was a benefit that was the story, the buzz.
The President came in and told us it was a mess,
This trouble before us was just a human fortitude test.
He said it was for the benefit of some, no ‘not,’ it’s for all,
Let’s bail out the banks and the car makers before we have a great fall.
So Detroit was taken, split up and divided,
Some parts were shipped to European countries, why were we mis-guided?
The banks were told to take money or you will surely fail,
Take it whether you need it or not; no, no, no, it’s not black mail.
We know what is better; we know the overall plan,
We’re just not telling every citizen, woman and man.
With great force, with great vigor and decisiveness,
The President brought in his best advisors, best trained in divisiveness.
General Motors must go to the hands of the labor union,
Aghast, a person remarked, we’ve become the Soviet Union.
The unions are running the empires of our manufacturing,
Our strong nation is turning weak and fracturing.
Our government is controlled by the unions who tell us,
How much they will charge you for retirement, they don’t discuss.
Some who took the job of government servant, we find out way too late,
It wasn’t for the service; it was for the amount they were underpaid.
You see all others are rich, in their own eyes,
They didn’t have to be humble; they didn’t have to tell white lies.
The servants of the people had to bite their tongues,
Others could breathe freely but we, the servants, suffered in our lungs.
You see, as government workers we were expected to follow
The current politicians promises for the great tomorrow.
We couldn’t object or we would lose our jobs,
We couldn’t say anything, we didn’t know who robs.
So they compromised their principles and their common sense,
They went along with whatever was thrown over the fence.
So you see they must get paid the best advantages in old age,
Or you better be ready to be put up with their golden rage.
You see they have suffered this major indignation,
They were serving the people, they were serving the nation.
What happened to individual nature, freedom and hard work?
Make an honest dollar for a hard day in the dirt.
It’s been overtaken, its passé, it’s not the right thing,
Can you express your honesty, when you say something?
No matter if you try to quote the Nation’s founding documents,
Someone will try to inject their own twisted comments.
You don’t know what’s right and you know what’s wrong,
You just don’t know, until the Supreme Court has sung the last song.
So go out and vote and make the statement that you wish,
Just don’t come back later and say it was a day you missed.
The right you have to vote is the only voice you get,
The right you have to vote is the only voice you submit.
